Based in Canada and founded in 2002 by Danny Bergeron and Allan Joli-Coeur, Syon Media has been involved in an impressive amount of films and television series in the last twenty years, ranging from Hollywood major blockbusters to exciting independent projects with partners from all over the world.

Our team

Danny Bergeron

President & Producer

Danny is considered to be one of the true pioneers in the production of animation and visual effects in Canada. He began exploring this facet of animation over thirty years ago. He was head animator, director and producer or VFX Producer on several films and animated series. Numerous Hollywood studios and independent film, TV, and advertising markets have sought his creative talent and expertise on countless projects.

Throughout his career, Danny has directed several animated films, primarily in the advertising medium. Danny has also created, produced or co-produced numerous animated projects, including Inuk, the first Quebec 3D animated TV Series (T-Q, CBC, APTN), Fred the Caveman (Teletoon), Fridge Magnets, The Podcats (Okidoki-Morgane-France Television), the animated feature Quackerz (Canada-Russia-Italy) and is currently in production on the Indonesia-Canada TV Series The Beachbuds. Danny is a member of the Youth Media Alliance (YMA), Alliance Quebec Animation (AQA), the Visual Effects Society (VES, Los Angeles) and The Quebec Film and Television Council (QFTC). Danny has a bachelor’s degree in film and communication from McGill University and a Master in computer animation from Concordia University.

Allan Joli-Coeur

VP & Executive producer

A lawyer by training, Allan has a strong background in the financial, legal and business side of media production and exploitation. Building on his beginnings in the legal and financial area of the industry, he has added hands on experience managing all aspects of live-action, animated and digital media productions. 

Allan has over 25 years of experience working with in all types of companies (from large public companies to producing out of smaller production entities) and all kinds productions.  In his early years in the industry, working at the law firm Heenan Blaikie and the production and distribution company, Allegro/Motion International, Allan was involved in over 200 international productions. Since then, Allan has been directly involved as a producer or an executive producer on more than 20 seasons of television series, a dozen interactive productions, a half dozen documentaries and two feature films; including winning Gemini, YMA, Numix, Canada Screen as well as a Peabody award.

Heading up the Vancouver operations of Syon Media, Allan is deeply committed to the creation of strong and intelligent media for children and family audiences as well as to a strong independent Canadian content industry.

Xiaoyi (Shirley) Gu

VP & Market development – Asia

Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Shirley moved to Canada in 2009 and received her Bachelor Degree from Concordia University in Commerce and Operational Management in 2013. 

Shirley started her career as a Business Development professional for a renowned Canadian real estate development corporation. She was in charge of Asian market development and investors relationship. In 2016 Shirley joined Studio Digital District Canada, a branch of Paris based Digital District and a well-established VFX and Postproduction corporation, to act as Director of Market Development Asia. Shirley was in charge of market development and client relation with China.  Shirley was mainly responsible of the client supervision on the Chinese movie “Three Body Problem”.

In 2018 Shirley joined Syon Media Inc. as Director of Market Development Asia and later become associate and Vice-President Market Development. Shirley is now based in Shanghai to represent Syon Media on the Asian territory.
